Here is my paper comparing the iSchool and Constructivist teaching as well as the aspects of design that are inherent in both. Once again, because i suck, i did not properly cite my information. All of the paper is paraphrased, the information that is in quotations are concepts that were mentioned in the readings. For my knowledge on the iSchool i based it off of my visit to the school a few months ago, as well as the 7 min video that is available on their website. The mention of higher order thinking skills is from Blooms Taxonomy that I posted about earlier. Lev Vygotsky’s theory on the Zone of Proximal Development is from “Mind in Society: The Development of Higher Psychological Processes.” The Constructivist theory is from “Brooks, Martin & Brooks, Jacueline Grennon. The Case for Constructivist Classrooms.” and the information about the formation of the institution of public education in this country is from “The Educational Theory of Thomas Jefferson. @www.newfoundation.com, 2002.” by Jeff Sparagana. Lastly all of the design stuff is mine, to the best of my knowledge, but clearly influenced by my 4+ years of design education and reading, so clearly not only mine.
I actually think this is a very interesting paper, not to float my own boat, so do try reading it.
